Zipper Stop Removal

I want to replace my YKK #10 aluminum sliders with stainless steel sliders. Is there a tool or a trick that will remove the stop from the zipper without damaging the zipper?
Thanks
John

Hi John,
It depends on what type of zipper stop is on there. If it is stainless steel crimp on, just pry it open with a flat tip screw driver and a pair of needle nose pliers. This type of zipper stop can be re-used. If it is the manufacturers original zipper stop, it won't come off at all. You will need to use a pair of scissors to clip the zipper tape just above the stop and with that small gap, you can change out your sliders. Then you will need the crimp on style ss zipper stops. You would then crimp one on the last tooth before the small cut you made in the zipper tape to keep the slider from coming off. I sell the crimp in ss zipper stops on my marine zippers page.
Good question, thanks for the inquiry.
