Do I need to have a tent-like cover on my pontoon boat? Or will individual covers for the furniture do as well? What about the carpet?

by Ed Lawrence

I just bought a used pontoon boat with a brand new tent-like cover with snaps and poles. It is a major effort to take it off and, especially, to put it on. Would smaller individual covers for the furniture work as well? Does the carpet need a cover? Can one be laid on the floor? What materials would you suggest?

Thanks.

Hi Ed,
Good question. We build lot's of cover both ways. Full covers and what we call summer covers with each individual seat covered on its own.
I'm not going to lie to you and tell you it's not hard on your carpet. However you can significantlly protect your carpet by using 303 protectorant on it and keeping it treated yearly.
People who have the summer covers, really love the easy of use, by not having to take off everything all of the time and many other ways they make it easier on you.
Sunbrella and topnotch 9 tend to be my fabrics of choice.
Hope this helps.
