climashield plus fabric longevity
by: Kevin DuPre

I have a factory provided bimini in this Climashield plus fabric. It has lived for 3 12-week seasons in the summer in northern Michigan. So essentially it has been out in the sun 9 months. Rest of the time it is folded down and covered by the boot and during the months of October to May the entire boat is shrink-wrapped.

This bimini is heavily faded and thin. This will probably be the last season for this. I make sails and boat canvas products for a living. Top Notch 9 has an 8 year warranty, and Sunbrella has 10. I have boat covers that have spent entire years outdoors exposed to the elements and show no signs of fading or sun rot. A 5 year fabric is a 5 year fabric, and in the specific case of my bimini it's more like 3 years.

I will be fabricating a new top next year in Top Notch 9.
