How can I add a piece of boat cover material to my original boat cover. Needed in order to accommodate the trolling motor.

Hi John,
How I do it as a marine fabricator is, I cut a relief hole into the the boat cover allowing the trolling motor to protrude from the hole.
I then use plastic to pattern a shape that will cover the motor and pin the pattern to the boat cover. Once I get the shape I am looking for I use a sharpie to mark the plastic and it then becomes my pattern that I will use to cut and then sew the fabric that will make the sock/boot for the protruding motor.

To do a project like this, you would also need sticky tape and T pins that will pin the pattern to the cover.

This isn’t really considered a beginner project. It’s more of intermediate, but could be handled as a beginner with some patience and precise marking and cutting.

I hope that explains what your after.
Thanks for the question.
Tammy
