Zippers on Bimini top opening in the wind while underway

Hi Mark,
Yes, there is a way to stop your marine zipper from working itself open while underway or in strong wind.

It sounds like the sliders you now have are non-locking. You can swap them out for locking sliders and that should do the trick.

However, if you have locking sliders now and they are still working themselves open, a solution I have come up with for customers is as follows.

In the bottom of a zipper slider pull there is a hole in the tab. The tab is the part you grab with your thumb and forefinger.

Install a female snap into the hole in the tab. Zip the zipper closed and install the male snap in the fabric at the end of the zipper and into the fabric.
Snap the slider tab to the snap in the canvas and you will have locked the zipper closed and it can’t work itself open.
You will need to have a canvas shop do this unless you own a Pres-n-snap tool that installs snaps.
It will work. Good question!
