I'm not really surprised. The underside would sweat and any dirt mixed with the moisture would eventually mold.

Seamark and mold
by: Julie

I made a dodger for a sailboat from Seamark (linen colour) and the owner of the boat told me it got terribly moldy on the underside vinyl. The boat is in the humid tropics Central America.

Seamark
by: Tammy

You are correct. Seamark has been known to get brittle over time and crack. Even though, it is still a boat cover material that finds favor with OEM canvas manufacturers, because it retains the look and appearance of Sunbrella, but is 100% waterproof. You can build the bimini out of Seamark and come back and build the enclosure out of sunbrella and the fabric looks the same from the outside.
Another option is Sunbrella Supreme. Same thing, it is flocked on the underside and looks like sunbrella on the outside. It too is 100% waterproof. Some fabricators have been finding mildew growth on the underside and difficult to clean due to the flocking. So it's a trade off. If you want waterproof in a fabric that has the look and feel of Sunbrella, then Seamark or Sunbrella supreme it is.
Other options, are fabrics like BreakwaterX, Riviera, Stamoid.
These a pvc and have a much different appearance.
