Boat Canvas up or down in strong winds
by: Tammy

Dan Strong winds can damage the canvas no matter what you do. My guess is the fastening points were faulty to begin with, for what could be a variety of reasons.
If you were to leave the canvas up all the time, your bimini still has the ability to catch wind and lift right off the boat, plus you have the added issue that your rolled up clears will trap water and burn the plastic. Effectively destroying the entire enclosure.
So see what you can do with the mounting points. There are fittings that have 3 and 4 hole bases, better yet through bolting is helpful if you have access.
Make your frame as secure as possible and if you don't have lifetime thread, give your canvas sewn seams the tug test every year to make sure you can't pull the thread apart by hand. If the thread fails in a storm, you can have extensive damage to both canvas and boat.
