is a polyester tarp a good choice to toss over a parked pontoon for protection from sun, water, and mildew?

Just bought a 22ft pontoon with trailer and motor, need an inexpensive cover to protect it from the elements when parked. Live in piedmont NC . Especially want to protect console and seat upholstery. Thanks

I would say that it could serve you temporarily while you invest in something better. My concern is the plastic of the tarp laying over the seats. Might it damage your seats. Not so sure. Also, unless you get creative you will hold water.
I know a custom cover is expensive, but a well made boat cover in sunbrella or similar breathable boat cover material and lifetime thread will last you up to 15 years. Pro-rate that out and it is a reasonable investment. The biggest mistake people make with their boats is assuming that since it is a watercraft and meant for outdoor use the boat can take the elements. This is not the case. Boats need to be covered at all times when not in use with a well made cover and breathable boat fabric. Boat covers are your boats best friend. So go ahead and cover it temporarily with the thought of a better cover coming soon. Thanks for the question, it's a good one.
