Stripped screw in the metal frame
by: Tammy

First this should be a machine screw not a wood screw, so that could be your problem, but let’s assume this is a machine screw.
The way to fix this is to take your screw to the hardware store. Ask them to get you the drill bit and tap set for the next size up, plus the new machine screw. You will have to drill and tap for the new size machine screw.
You have to go beyond cautious with drilling a windshield because of the possibility of shattering the glass.

You can do this one of two ways. Insert a small drill bit into the existing hole and determine the depth. Tape your new drill bit and tap with blue painters tape to determine where you need to stop your drilling.

Another way is to buy a drill bit with a countersink that can be moved and set up or down the drill bit. You need to stop yourself from going to deep into the hole.

Going slow and easy, you should be good to go.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!
