Weathermax 80 repairs

by Simon
(United Kingdom)

Over the winter three of areas in the boat cover chaffed on the supporting frames making holes, one about 10inches by 6inches, another about 3inches square and the last about an inch square in two places.
I can salvage weathermax 80 material from the sailbags.
A domestic sewing machine is too small to accommodate the cover, so it will have to be hand stitched.
What are your recommendations for repair, such as thread size and material, patch overlap size and folding, or should I go for another material to reinforce the area? Could I use glue to sandwich the holes between two patches?
Hope this makes some sense.
